The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) actively participates in UEFA’s institutional processes, as it did at the extraordinary meeting held on 30 July 2026. At that meeting, UEFA and its 55 Member Associations unanimously and unequivocally rejected FIFA’s proposal to transfer ownership interests in the World Cup and other FIFA competitions to private investors.
The CFA remains firmly aligned with UEFA’s common position and also endorses the new joint position unanimously agreed on Thursday 27th of August in Monaco by National Association representatives serving on the UEFA Executive Committee, European FIFA Council members and Presidents of UEFA Member Associations.
In light of the developments that have unfolded and under the present circumstances, the CFA considers that the conditions necessary for the President of FIFA to continue exercising his duties are no longer in place. The essential relationship of trust and collective responsibility between FIFA’s leadership, the Confederations, FIFA Council and Member Associations has been significantly eroded.
The decisions to be taken in the period ahead will be critical and must be guided solely by the interests and protection of football, while safeguarding its unity, credibility and institutional integrity.
